Scarce 19th C. Whaleboat Water Cask

Water keg that would have been carried on a whaleboat. A cooper-made wooden-staved cylindrical barrel, with a slight taper, four ferrous metal bands, a carrying bail made of whale ivory and metal afixed to the top and a whale ivory ring around an opening in the top for pouring that would receive a stopper. 19th C. Original paint.14 ¾ in. tall, 14 3/8 in. base diameter. 11½ in. top diameter. A rare find.
