A wonderful and rare scrimshaw puzzle box carved of whale ivory, in form of a whale ship's hull. The deck or two-part cover of the boat is engraved with a full figure Scotsman. Sliding open the top half of the cover reveals the maker's name and date, "Hugh Nairne fecit Newport, RI 1847". Fully opened, the hollowed out interior is seen, as well as the engraved name, "Green Walden". Good condition, with an old glue repair. 4 1/2 in. long

Green Walden was the master of the Revenue Cutter Morris which was launched in April, 1847 and sailed from Baltimore, Md. to Portland, Me.
