13988a Pair of Edgar W. Jenney Prints of Nantucket Whaling Era Scenes

Product Description

A charming pair of hand colored prints by Edgar W. Jenney depicting Nantucket scenes reminiscent of the whaling era. The first, "A Visit to the Wharf Nantucket" is dated July 7 '32. It shows a group assembled at the wharf with Nantucket town in the background. The second, "Up on the Walk" is dated June 2, '33 and shows a group of people looking out to Nantucket Harbor, with the Unitarian Church Clock Tower to the left. Hand colored. 19 in. x 22 1/2 in. Archivally framed.

Edgar Whitfield Jenney retired as an architect and moved to Nantucket to paint and teach painting. He was energetic in preserving Nantucket historic houses. After he died in 1939 the Metropolitan Museum honored him with a show of 45 of his works. See: Robert diCurcio, Art on Nantucket for a discussion of this artist.
