3076.Very rare boxes of spermaceti, ca 1960. These two boxes of commercially packaged raw granular spermaceti came out of the estate of a woman who made candles as a hobby during the 1960ís. Of course these date well after the era of American whaling and I assume the raw material was acquired from the modern Norwegian or Japanese whale fishery. They were packaged by Humco Laboratory and each contains one pound of granular spermaceti, a commodity which of course is no longer available. The boxes were never opened. In my 50 plus years in business I have had numerous vintage spermaceti candles as well as early bottled sperm oil but have never encountered this product other than in museums. Boxes each measure 6 in. x 4.5 in. x 3 in.
