2698 Improved style, acute-barbed American whaling toggle iron by E.B. & F. Macy. It is signed MACY. Excellent condition, possibly never used. OA length of iron 31 1/2 in. New Bedford, last quarter of the 19th C.
Edwin B. and Frederick Macy‘s shop was located on Front Street in New Bedford, from 1860 until Edwin closed it in 1904. (Frederick became a fireman in N.B. in 1881 , and while he was still a partner in the firm, he was no longer active as a blacksmith.)
