This beautiful scrimshaw pie crimper is carved of whale ivory. A dentil-edged wheel with five-pointed star as its hub is mounted on a lyre-shaped support above a rectangular base from which a 3-tined fork extends. The mid-section of the shaped handle is split with open-carved pinwheels on each side. A baleen or ebony band separates the handle from the carvings above. The center tine of the fork is warped and two minor early structural cracks have been reglued. There is a fine patina. 6 7/8 in. long.
