14485,2 This is an early whaling boat spade made by Snow and Purrington of New Bedford. Their blacksmithing firm was formed between 1845 and 1849 and continued until 1868. The SNOW & PUR of their mark is very distinct and the remaining letters of the signature have been obliterated. 15 1/4 in. long on a later wooden pole. Oa length 56 3/4 in. Good condition with light pitting.
