14528,2 A charming pair of antique candlesticks and candles fashioned entirely of whale ivory. Scribe lines in the candle holders are filled with multicolored sealing wax. They are the very same pair which are illustrated on page 234 in Flayderman, Scrimshaw and Scrimshanders. Two virtually identical pairs, in private collections, one ex. Barbara Johnson, are fitted as pickwicks, and these may have been intended as such.
Diminutive in size they also might have been created as toys or doll house accessories. Approx. 3 1/4 in. tall. They are indeed a wonderful treasure.
