"Nantucket Memories" by Alexander Seaverns, ca, 1910-20
This charming collage of a pen and ink drawing with 8 miniature photographs of Nantucket scenes by Henry S. Wyer, is attributed to Alexander H. Seaverns (? - 1932). A very similar drawing, titled “How dear to my heart are the scenes of my Childhood.” is the frontispiece of The Nantucket Scrap Basket, by William F. Macy and Roland B. Hussey, published in 1916. Seaverns came to Nantucket in the 1890’s where he was the first art teacher in the public schools. Archivally mounted in a vintage frame. 14 1/2 in. x 23 in., sight; 25 1/4 in. x 33 1/4 in., oa.
A copy of the Macy and Hussey book will accompany the drawing.
