14556 This incised carved board with gold leaf lettering retains traces of a light blue painted background on its weathered surface. There are anchor motifs on the ends. It dates to the late 19th century when there were several vessels bearing the name “Great Western” so it is difficult at this time to assign the board to a particular one. Nevertheless, it is a wonderful example of ship carving. 7 1/2 in. x 89 1/2 in. There is considerable wear to the paint and damage to the ends.
