14490 A very scarce booklet , entirely hand written, listing inventory for a whaling voyage in the Bark Gay Head. This is very unusual, as most such listings were entered in printed form books known as Outfitting Books which were sold by several ship chandlerís. There are about 41 pages listing quantities of provisions in various categories. Among whaling and shipís gear are lances, toggle irons, darting and shoulder guns, boarding knives, poles, trypot, etc. Cabin stores include various foods and provisions (e.g. beef, chicken, fruits,), spices, kerosene, etc. Carpenterís and Cooperís Tools,, Sails, Cordage, Slops (stockings, shirts, pants, etc.) all merit separate pages as do a number of miscellaneous categories. Articles were stowed in casks, and there are pages listing their contents and locations. About 6 pages are blank. 6 7/8 in. x 4 1/8 in. Very good legible condition.
A most interesting manuscript giving insight to what it took to outfit a whale ship for a whaling voyage.
