This insurance policy is for the bark Miantonomi and her outfits on a whaling voyage beginning on June 8th, 1853, and continuing until her return. The vessel was valued at $20,000 and outfits at $28,000. Built in 1850 in North Carolina, she entered the whale fishery in 1853. She sailed for the Pacific Ocean from New Bedford on July 27, 1853 with William W. Clement as Master. This was her only whaling voyage, as she was lost on November 18, 1854 on Ascension Island. Swift and Allen were the managing owners or agents of the vessel. The log of this voyage is at the New Bedford Public Library. The policy was issued by the Commercial Mutual Marine Insurance Co. on June 8, 1853.
