2639 Painting of the Admiralty Club at Madaket on Nantucket by John Austin. Egg tempera on artist panel. In original frame, typical of those which Austin made for his paintings. The back retains the old Main Street Gallery label. 9 in. x 13 in., sight; 17 1/2 in. x 21 1/4 in., oa. Signed lower right within the painting.

John Austin (1918-2001) studied with Reginald Marsh and Edward Hopper. Exhibited at the Lobster Pot Gallery and later the Main Street Gallery on Nantucket through the late 1990’s. His work was collected by Jacqueline Kennedy and Mrs. Paul Mellon and is in the collection of the Nantucket Historical Association.
