These shipping articles dated September 21, 1880 for the Bark Petrel of New Bedford, James Claghorn, Master are for a five year voyage. The crew and their positions are listed as well as their shares in the voyage. Terms of their hiring are fully explained in the printed and addended hand written portions of the document. Attached to the form is a Custom House Certificate testifying to its authenticity.
The Petrel, 257 tons, agent William Knowles, left New Bedford for the Atlantic Ocean on October 19, 1880 and returned after a successful voyage, on August 22, 1884.
