Product Description
14479,a Extremely rare Nantucket-made single flued whaling harpoon, made, and signed by Elisha(I) Parker (1819-1884). The iron is in excellent as new condition with no signs of use or ship marks and no pitting. It is marked on one side of the boss E. PARKER. The serving on the socket and the "iron strap" are probably of later vintage. This is a remarkable find as Nantucket made whalecraft is exceedingly scarce. OA length is 34-5/8".
Parker is said to have been the last whalecraft making blacksmith on the island, working here until whaling ceased in1869. His shop was located on Cross Wharf, the little north-south running wharf that connected Old North Wharf with Straight Wharf.
