Product Description
This antique scrimshaw sperm whale's tooth engraved by the "battle engraver" is a very choice example of a piece by this recognized artisan. On the obverse it depicts a whaleship flying a house flag with the letter "B", in the process of "cutting in" a whale, while the reverse depicts a furious naval battle with a vessel flying a British flag. Polychromed with blue greenish and red colorations. Very good condition with two old cracks to base. Size: 7.25 inches long. Mid 19th C.
