Crosby, Nantucket In Print

Product Description

14459,1 Everett U. Crosby; Nantucket in Print, Tetaukimmo Press; 1946. 225 pages. Good condition with torn dj. Out of print.

This book, probably the scarcest of the author’s several important works about Nantucket, contains reprints of some of the earliest writings of the island. Included are the Letters of Saint-John de Crevecour; Description of the Gulf Stream by Benjamin Franklin, which was very important to the early Nantucket whalemen; a description of a visit to the island by Ralph Waldo Emerson, and other very interesting articles. There are two fold out maps, one showing Crevecour’s map of the island and the second Franklin’s Chart of the Gulf Stream. Crosby lists his recommendations for what one should collect or read, and then provides a comprehensive Checklist of Writings as well as a listing of the twelve maps of importance from 1772 to 1881.
