Charles Murphey, 3d mate on the whaleship Dauphin , composed this most unusual poetic narrative of the voyage (Sept., 1820 to July, 1823), during which they found a boat from the infamous Essex and rescued 2 of her survivors (Captain Pollard and Charles Ramsdell). Wood engraving depicting a whale attacking a whaleship on front wrapper, listing of officers of the ship on page opposite the start of the poem. Very scarce.
