14321 Bird's Eye View of Nantucket

Product Description

This is a 1948 reprint of Stoner's Bird's Eye View of Nantucket which was published in 1881. In 1946 Everett U. Crosby in his book, Nantucket in Print, referred to it as one of the twelve maps of importance to the island. This may have prompted the reissuing two years later. The map depicts accurate views of all the houses on the island in 1881. There are vignettes of 4 hotels along the bottom, and a view of the village of Siasconset in the upper right hand corner. The original version is exceedingly rare and this issue, published by Wm. O. Lincoln in Hingham, Mass. is very scarce. There is a small paper loss in the left margin about 7 inches from the bottom and a 2 in. tear from the right edge about 6 in. from the bottom. Archivally framed. 19 3/4 in. x 28 3/4 in., sight; 27 1/2 in. x 37 in., overall.
