Sailing Card for Clipper Ship BRIDGEWATER

Product Description

Rare clipper ship sailing card for the ship BRIDGEWATER, Sisson, Master, for Sutton & Co's Dispatch Line. Printed on coated card stock and depicting a female figure blowing a brass trumpet over the ocean with a clipper ship on the horizon. The name BRIDGEWATER printed in red white and blue decorative letters. The reverse is printed with costs of freight per foot and per weight. There are also hand written notes including a date in 1866. Some spotting and rubbing around the edges. Reverse has surface losses at corners where the card had been mounted in a frame.

Provenance: The India House, New York

The BRIDGEWATER was built in 1854 by Cramp Co. in Philadelphia as a 1500 ton full rigged ship for the California trade. Capt. Sisson took command in 1865. She does not appear in the ship's registries after1891. SORRY, SOLD
